Personal Growth Exercise: From Jazlyn Coles from the Bullish on Business Podcast
Letters to Becoming: Journaling Your Future Self - Jazlyn Coles from the Bullish on Business Podcast
Exercise for Listeners – Letters to BecomingFind a space that brings you tranquility, by yourself, with only a pen and a notepad or journal. Sit in that moment, and begin with prayer or by speaking aloud how you are feeling. Give voice to your struggles, acknowledging every emotion fully and freely, without judgment.
After releasing your emotions, open your journal and follow these steps:
Write an affirmative message to yourself, a Bible scripture, or a personal dedication.
Record the date and time beside it.
Begin with “Dear (Your Name)”. Choose whichever version of your name feels right: your birth name, a nickname, or even a word or adjective that reflects who you are or aspire to be (positive connotations only).
Describe the season of life you are in right now by reflecting on:
How you view yourself
What does this current season of life look like (get as detailed as possible)
How you influence others
Your current job position or educational standing
The community around you
Continue your journaling session by speaking life into your future self. Write as if you are shaping the version of yourself you envision five years from now.
Close your journaling entry with one of the following affirmations:
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
It is so.
This shall come to pass.
I have no doubt that I will walk confidently into this season destined for me.
I will persist until I fully become this version of myself.
My steps are ordered, and I am walking in divine alignment.
This is already mine, and I receive it with gratitude.
I am equipped, empowered, and enough for this journey.
I trust the process, and I trust God’s timing.
The ones bolded are my personal favorites. This exercise will make room for a release with a level of transparency and vulnerability with self, but leave with you making a mark and investing into the refined and improved self that has yet to come, but is now closer because of your intentionality for growth.
